"In health there is freedom. Health is the first of all  liberties."
Henri-Frederic Amiel 1828-1881

My mental health, alternative remedy for today is Pulsatilla or Pasqueflower. Part of the Buttercup family, the Pasqueflower grows in the chalky soil of the grasslands in Northern, and Central North America.  The homeopathic remedy, is prepared from the plant's dried aerial parts.

The Pasqueflower is effective because of its delicate properties that are helpful for adults and children who suffer from insecurity and sensitivity. This delicate blue flowering plant is said to resemble the personality type of those who may benefit from its properties. These individuals are usually timid, prone to mood swings, cry easily, feel depressed, suffer from a low self-esteem, and psychosomatic issues. Pulsatilla can also be used to treat physical symptoms such as stomach and digestive discomfort from too many rich foods, issues with menstruation and menopause, as well as mucus discharge from a cold or flu, and earache.

Will Pulsatilla work for you?  Ask yourself the following questions. If at least 3 apply to you then this might be just the remedy you are looking for.

  • Do you feel alone and abandoned?
  • Do you cry easily, especially when asked about your symptoms?
  • Is sympathy something that you constantly seek?
  • Do you feel anxious for no reason?
  • Does your mood change rapidly, from happy to sad, or vica versa?
  • Are you afraid of other people's opinions?
  • Do you feel as if you have no confidence in yourself?

If you have questions about this alternative medicine, your mental health practitioner, naturopath, or regular doctor would be the best person to consult as mentioned in my other blogs. He/she will want to know if symptoms get better or worse with the following conditions.

             You feel Better
  • With sympathy from someone.
  • With constant movement.
  • When outside.
  • When walking at a slow pace.

             You feel Worse
  • At night.
  • After eating fatty or fried foods.
  • In poorly ventilated rooms.
  • In a hot or warm environment.
  • When outside on a sunny day.

Stay tuned for  the last of my series on homeopathic remedies for mental health which will be Cimicifuga or Black Cohosh for women.
